Biography

A native of Michigan, Madeleine began studying the French language at home. Her desire to become bilingual stemmed from her large multicultural family with Western European roots. She aspired to become fluent enough to be able to live and work on her own in the country where her grandfather lived for the last decade of his life.

She first visited France in Spring 2008, where she lived in an Eastern city close to the border of Switzerland called Besancon. There, she studied both written and oral French, including French culture and literature. She stayed with two host families and tutored her 13-year old host sister with her English, as well as her 21-year old host brother with his.

Having had such an amazing experience abroad, Madeleine returned to France to teach as an English teaching assistant for the academic school year of 2009-2010 in a small town called Aiguillon. There, she studied French theatre/drama while incorporating theatrical games into her lesson plans in order to help her students have fun while learning her native language.
